With the partytossing Verboten gang’s eponymous venue on North 11th Street… it’s official: Williamsburg has become New York’s new clubland paradise.
Ever hear of those “all night warehouse parties” that always took place in Brooklyn, NYC? The ones that all the industry people go to after all the amateurs go home to sleep? The ones that play the “deepest shit” and all the “this ain’t out yet” tracks? Well the majority of those parties were organized by Verboten.
…Perhaps the most organized and business-oriented, Verboten aims to please its loyal followers by providing dynamic music, consistently good venues, and big names. – Mixmag –
Verboten has been supporting the underground for the past decade and has finally found a home in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. The 10,000 square foot space consisting of two rooms; the Control Room and a more intimate cabaret bar. The Control Room will be used as the main dance floor while the cabaret bar is a more intimate space for socializing completely with it’s own sound system.
The club’s policy speaks to it’s dedication to maintaining a enthusiastic, intellectual, and classic scene to it’s underground parties, as they emphasize appropriate behavior as well as warn that they take these expectations seriously:
Verboten is a pro-woman company, run by strong women and the men & women who love them. Harassment in any form will not be tolerated. If you are the victim of any unwanted speech, treatment, or physical abuse, please speak with any staff member and that person will be removed.
Every public space inside Verboten is handicap accessible, including the raised seating. If you require assistance accessing these areas, please let the door staff know when you arrive.
Everyone else, our policy is simple… don’t be a jerk. Tip your waitstaff, don’t push and shove, respect the privacy & personal space of those around you, stay off your phone on the dance floor, and don’t get too messy. Verboten would appreciate it, and so would your mom.
Finally… you will be photographed. Big Brother is always watching.
The clubs resident DJs are top quality and are known in underground scenes in cities all over the world. If you’ve been to a Verboten party in the past, it’s likely you’ve seen one of this leviathans of deep/techno/minimal scene. Ida Edgberg, Carl Craig, David Squillace, Matt Tolfrey, and Matthew Dear all keep you grooving well into the wee hours of the morning. Leaving a Verboten party is always like waking from a trance that you wish never ended.
